Canterbury West Railway Station

Challenges

Works were a challenge as the erection of the scaffolding was over the track so Redec had to take full possession of the main high-speed line to facilitate this.  This was overcome by employing our COSS Team to agree track closures with Network Rail to allow the works to proceed.

Works            

  • Full elevational scaffolding and temporary roof
  • Specialist removal of asbestos roof coverings
  • Structural surveys to the chimneys and fabric
  • Refurbishment and replacement like-for-like of all timber casement and sash windows.
  • Full canopy repairs and re-glazing
  • DOFF cleaning system to ashlar retained elevations
  • Replacement of roofing with new natural slate
  • Removal of all asbestos and lead based paints.
  • Installation of all new second-fix joinery.
  • Full external redecoration.
  • Full stucco survey using hammer tests and replacement of lime render to match.
  • Localised repointing in lime and clay brick replacements.
  • Pedestrian upgrades to the main forecourt
  • Specialist landscaping works to clear vegetation (including Japanese knotweed), installation of turfing and removal of coppicing to the sidings.
  • All works were supervised and approved by the local authority’s listed building officer.
