Works 

Full elevational scaffolding erected.

Overhaul and repair to pitched roofs and lead valleys.

Structural surveys to the timber frame and roof construction.

Structural repairs to main timber frame using a mixture of new oak timber beams.

Refurbishment and replacement like-for-like of all timber casement and sash windows, along with all internal keep cladding.

Removal of all asbestos and lead based paints.

Installation of all new second-fix joinery.

Full external and internal redecoration.

Specialist conservation redecoration including installing hand-printed wallpapers and installing carpets.

Full stucco survey using hammer tests and replacement of lime render to match.

Localised repointing in lime and stone repair.

Replacement of various weather/sheered stone lintels and preparation to the rubble cores.

Installation of bespoke showcases to show the various artifacts and collections.

Installing a new lighting and a security system within the castle’s existing pyro wiring system.

All works were supervised and approved by the local authority’s listed building officer and English Heritage.

The castle was described as being “The Queen Mother’s favourite castle” as she spent many summers here.
